One poem by Lori Romero

skin in/bone out
by Lori Romero

skin in
bone out

clack
clack

rosary
beads
tabulate
atonement

clack
clack

beads
of sweat

skin in
bone out

kyrie
eleison
kyrie
eleison
bee voices
drone on
kyrie
eleison

lord
have
mercy
lash
thrash
larrup

the devil
never
sleeps

clack
clack

skin in
bone out

exaudi
christe

under
varicose
frescos
sin’s
sutured
faith
resuscitated

clack
clack

skin in
bone out

agnus dei
dense
incense
ascends
agnus dei

clack
clack

skin in
bone out

tall walls
of stained
glass mayhem
bleed light

clack
clack

skin in
bone out

Author bio:

Lori Romero’s short screenplay, “Strange Saints,” won the Manhattan Short Film Festival’s Screenplay Competition. Her chapbook, “Wall to Wall,” was published by Finishing Line Press. Her poetry and short stories have been published in more than seventy journals and anthologies, and she was just nominated for a second Pushcart Prize. She also has the rather unusual hobby of storm chasing -- every spring and summer she drives into the storms everyone else in their right mind is running away from.

Editor's note: skin in/bone out was originally published in erbacce (UK), 2005.
